In the first-of-its-kind bold action, Gadchiroli Police conducted a search operation at the residence of a Delhi University (DU) professor at his flat in Warden House in DU premises, over his links with Communist Party of India (Maoist). The cops seized computer hard disks, pen drives, laptop, and CDs with suspicious contents.
Confirming the action, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Gadchiroli-Gondia Range) Ravindra Kadam told ‘The Hitavada’ that Gadchiroli Police had carried out the searches at the residence of Prof G N Saibaba, who teaches English at Ram Lal Anand College in South Delhi, on Thursday. The search was carried out by the cops armed with a search warrant issued by the court. The search was conducted in coordination with Delhi Police and some Intelligence agencies.
During the search, Saibaba’s laptop, CDs, four pen drives, three computer hard disks, a micro-chip with suspicious content were seized. Besides, mobile phones of Saibaba’s daughter, a couple of other phones, and some printed material also were seized from his residence. “We are examining the contents of seized material. After thorough examination of the contents, we may arrest Saibaba,” said Kadam. According to Kadam, Saibaba was named as contact person by two arrested Maoist couriers Hem Mishra, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Prashant Rahi, who claimed to be a former journalist.
Mishra and Rahi were arrested from Gadchiroli and Gondia recently. Rahi is a Professional Revolutionary of banned outfit CPI (Maoist), and Mishra a member. During interrogation, Mishra and Rahi as well as arrested tribal cadres Pandu Narote and Mahesh Teerky named G N Saibaba. “Mishra and Rahi told us that they were being sent to Abujhmarh on Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border for a meeting in which exchange of thought, finances, and some other material was expected,” Kadam added. The proposed meeting at Abujhmarh aimed at further coordination of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee’s front activities.
Interestingly, a micro-chip containing a coded message was recovered from Hem Mishra when he was arrested in Aheri in Gadchiroli district. During interrogation, Mishra told cops that he was asked by Rahi to deliver the coded message to CPI (Maoist) General Secretary (topmost leader) Ganapathy. When the cops arrested Rahi, he told them that he was asked by G N Saibaba to meet Central Committee members of CPI (Maoist).

‘Saibaba was in touch with Ganapathy’
According to Intelligence sources, Prof G N Saibaba had been actively coordinating the activities of front organisations of CPI (Maoist) and the party organisation. Saibaba is Deputy Secretary of Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF), which has been banned in adjoining state of Andhra Pradesh. According to Intelligence sources, Gadchiroli Police had evidence that Saibaba was in touch with Maoists’s supreme commander Ganapathy. For communication with Central Committee members of the banned CPI (Maoist), Saibaba reportedly used pseudonyms like Prakash and Chetan. It is widely believed that Saibaba was coordinating with Maoist outfits operating in various countries at International level. He was associated with a host of frontal organisations including All India Peoples Resistance Forum (AIPRF), Committee for Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) etc.

G N Saibaba, RDF, and the statements
Prof G N Saibaba is a widely known name in the ‘revolutionary circuit’. In fact, a website maoistroad.blogspot.in carries Saibaba’s interview in Varberg (Sweden) taken on April 14-15, 2012. At the outset of the interview itself, it reads ‘The transcript of the interview is checked by Saibaba’.
In the interview, Saibaba has spoken elaborately on ideology and functioning of CPI (Maoist), Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), coordination of ‘peoples struggles’ and ‘Maoist forces’. He also spoke about Revolutionary Peoples’ Councils (RPCs), which are known as ‘Janatana Sarkar’ in Maoist parlance. Here are a few lines from Saibaba’s interview:
“Like in a united front, in RPCs, Maoist party forces and non-party forces come together to form the peoples’ government. The party members elected to the government function as per party ideology to develop revolutionary consciousness among other members of the Revolutionary Peoples Council... People who do not know how a revolutionary party like the CPI (Maoist) functions or those who would like to malign the Maoist party may say such things. But then there (are) places where wrong things are practised or mistakes happen. But then it is not to be understood as the policy of the CPI (Maosit). But if you see the reality and closely follow the movement, you can understand that the CPI (Maoist) gives primary importance to the agency of the common people in their area.”
In one more such document related to manifesto of Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF), of which Saibaba is Deputy Secretary, it has been mentioned clearly, “To rouse the people with the consciousness of resistance struggles and to make them really fit to participate in this struggle, the RDF upholds the path of Naxalbari i.e., the path of Andhra, Jharkhand, Bihar and Dandakaranya revolutionary movement. The RDF will conduct intensive and massive propaganda highlighting this path and will help these struggles in every possible way.”
According to cops and Intelligence sources, there are several such indicators of Saibaba’s Maoist affiliations that may come to light as the investigations proceed further.
