Deadline for DBTL seeding extended by one month

* Four of top five districts with maximum seeding of LPG, bank, and Aadhaar numbers are from Vidarbha

Staff Reporter
In what could be a respite for those who are yet to link their LPG consumer number with bank account and Aadhaar number for obtaining subsidy under Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme, the deadline has been extended by a month. So far, in State, only 39.44 per cent of LPG consumer numbers have been linked with Aadhaar numbers.
For Vidarbha, however, there is a good news. Four of the top five districts with maximum seeding of LPG, bank, and Aadhaar numbers are from Vidarbha region alone. Overall, seeding percentage of LPG consumer numbers with Aadhaar numbers is 54.80 for Vidarbha, which is way ahead of state average. The top five districts include Wardha (with 87.02 per cent seeding of LPG-Aadhaar numbers), Gondia (69.61 per cent), Amravati (62.80 per cent), Nandurbar (58.78 per cent), and Nagpur (57.09 per cent).
Of 11 districts in Vidarbha region, Wardha was in the first phase of implementation of DBTL scheme. Amravati was in second phase; Gondia and Nagpur in third; Akola, Bhandara, and Chandrapur in fourth; Buldhana in fifth phase; Gadchiroli, Washim, and Yavatmal in sixth phase. The deadline for linking of LPG consumer number, bank account number, and Aadhaar number for Nagpur district was Decemebr 31, 2013. From January 1, 2014, the LPG consumers who did not link respective Aadhaar numbers with LPG consumer numbers and bank account numbers, were to get LPG cylinders at market rate -- that is, without subsidy. Under the DBTL scheme, subsidy on LPG cylinders is being transferred to bank account of a consumer directly.
However, 100 per cent seeding of all the three vital numbers has not been done in any of the districts in Maharashtra. For the districts in fourth, fifth, and sixth phases of DBTL scheme implementation, the deadline was January, february, and March 2014. Their deadline remains the same. But, in case of districts in first three phases, the deadline has been extended by a month. In case of Nagpur district, the deadline has been extended till January 31.
“The deadline has been extended and LPG consumers, who are yet to link their LPG and bank numbers with Aadhaar number, should take advantage of this. They should link these numbers if they wish to avail of subsidised cylinders up to the cap of nine cylinders in a year,” said Prashant Kale, District Supply Officer. Asked as to why was there only 57.09 per cent seeding of LPG-Aadhaar numbers in Nagpur district, Kale said that documentation and title issues at the level of consumers had delayed the process. Still, he said, the administration has been issuing advertisements in all media to make the consumers aware of the linking process.
