Now, municipal councils in Maharashtra demand octroi
* J P Dange, Chairman of Fourth Finance Commission, holds meeting of municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats By Kartik Lokhande While the issue of Local Body Tax (LBT) is still hot in case of municipal corporations across the State, the municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats in Nagpur district have demanded reintroduction of octroi as a source of revenue for them. During a meeting called by J P Dange, Chairman of Fourth Finance Commission, at Chhatrapati Hall in District Collectorate here the other day, the Presidents of municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats raised the demand of reintroduction of octroi. For, they said, these local bodies had very little source of revenue and there were plenty of obligations to meet as far as providing basic amenities to citizens was concerned.
