Maharashtra to have district level caste certificate scrutiny panels
Staff Reporter With a view to make the process of caste certificate scrutiny easier for applicants, Maharashtra Government has decided to scrap the Division level committees. Now, there will be committees at district level. Social Justice and Special Assistance Department had taken the decision regarding setting up of district-level committees in November 2013. Accordingly, on June 9, 2014, it has scrapped the Division level committees. The district-level committees will be headed ex-officio by respective Additional Collector (Selection Grade). Assistant Commissioner (Social Justice) and Research Officer will be the Member Secretary while Deputy Commissioner (Social Welfare) will be the Member of the district-level committee. However, with the new committees, the Government has to create new positions. And, this proposal is still ‘under consideration’.
