CM reviews Nagpur devpt issues, positive on removing hurdles


* Chief Minister asks officials of Urban Developmment Department to expedite decision-making on various proposals
* Asks officials to clear the issue of amalgamation of plots in unauthorised layouts, and also make public plan for development of Nagpur Metropolitan Region
* Various proposals of NMC need Rs 1,172 crore

Continuing with his commitment to the development of Nagpur city, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called a meeting of officers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on Friday at Mumbai. After taking stock of the progress of various projects and requirement of funds, Fadnavis asked the officials concerned to effect necessary changes in the proposals.
With the growth of Nagpur city, several new developmental issues have come up for NMC and NIT. Several issues needed resolution and proposals were submitted to Maharashtra Government. Chief Minister called a meeting in Mumbai to take stock of the proposals. Pravin Datke, Mayor; Shyam Wardhane, Municipal Commissioner; Dr Harshdeep Kamble, Chairman of NIT; Sunil Gujjalwar, Superintending Engineer of NIT, and other officers were present in the meeting. Manu Kumar Srivastava, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department (UDD) and other senior officers also were present.

NMC officers apprised the Chief Minister that bigger townships coming up in and around Nagpur city were posing new challenges as far as water supply and other amenities were concerned. There were no rules making it mandatory for bigger townships to recycle and reuse water. Hence, amendments were required to be made to Development Control Rules in this regard. Fadnavis asked the officials of UDD to take necessary steps in this regard. Further, he asked UDD officers to expedite decision-making in important proposals pertaining to development of Nagpur.
During discussion on issues relating to NIT, the officers pointed out that amalgamation of plots could not be done in unauthorised layouts, and the issue was pending since long. Amalgamation will increase Floor-to-Space Index (FSI) and result in bigger plot area. Fadnavis is learnt to have directed the officers concerned to clear amalgamation. He also asked the officials concerned to make public the plan for development of Nagpur Metropolitan Region. Chief Minister is Chairman of Nagpur Metropolitan Area Development Planning Committee. When it was pointed out that the plan could not be made public without clearance of the Committee, Fadnavis asked the officials to call a meeting soon and complete the formality. The plan was cleared by Chief Minister’s office.
Meanwhile, development of Khadka-Kirmiti scheme on Wardha Road also came up for discussion. Fadnavis said that the scheme should be developed, and asked UDD to clear the same.
As per the NMC note submitted to Chief Minister, NMC required a total of Rs 1,172.2845 crore for various proposals. There are several proposals concerning UDD, Finance Department, Water Resources Department, Public Health Department, Public Works Department, Transport Department, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), and Maharashtra Airport Development Company. These proposals range from recarpeting of 195 kms roads constructed in the city under Integrated Road Development Project, exemption to NMC from paying Rs 84.45 lakh to Water Resources Department as against reservation of water from Pench reservoir, etc to funds for preparing detailed project report for public transport system, making available MSRTC depots for maintenance of city bus fleet, creating new posts of Additional Municipal Comissioner, Joint Additional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner.
