TRAI warns cable TV subscribers

of deactivation of services if...

* They fail to submit duly filled in consumer application form to cable TV MSO

Staff Reporter
Did your cable television operator give you consumer application form to fill up? If yes, did you fill it up with all requisite details? If no, did you ask the operator to provide you the form?
If you are a cable television subscriber, you need to have answers for these questions ready. For, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a warning to all subscribers to submit duly filled in consumer application form (CAF) by June 25. Else, subscribers will face deactivation of the cable TV services. As per the latest directive of TRAI, it has been mandatory for all cable TV subscribers to submit CAF to respective to cable operator/multi-system operator (MSO). CAF must carry all required details including choice of channels/services.
If a subscriber does not submit CAF by June 25, his/her cable TV services will be deactivated till the time CAF is made available to respective cable operator/MSO. The details in CAF will have to be incorporated in subscriber management system of respective MSO. TRAI has taken this decision as it observed that ‘there is substantial pendency with respect to the availability of complete consumer details with the cable operators/MSOs’.
TRAI has directed MSOs in various cities including Nagpur that were covered in first phase of digitalisation of cable TV, to strictly ensure that cable TV services are provided only to subscribers whose complete details have been incorporated in their subscriber management system. The broadcasters and cable TV service providers have been running scrolls on TV channels for last few months asking subscribers to submit duly filled in CAF.
S G Gautam, Deputy Commissioner, told ‘The Hitavada’ that CAF was necessary to provide proper choice of services to subscribers and for putting in place an effective subscriber management system. As far as Nagpur Division is concerned, he said, no MSO had submitted details of CAF to the administration. “We have asked for details like number of duly filled in CAF received from subscribers. In fact, if MSOs fail to provide CAF to subscribers, the administration has got powers to take appropriate action against them,” he said.
