Pench-IV
project to augment water supply to the Orange City, which has got
delayed, will be commissioned on March 15 as per the new deadline. With
the trial run and commissioning of the project on March 15, the city is
likely to get 115 million litres per day (MLD) additional water supply.
This
was disclosed by Pravin Datke, Mayor, soon after a review meeting
chaired by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and
Highways, at Ravi Bhavan here on Friday evening. Gadkari called the
meeting to take stock of the progress of various developmental projects
of the city. Shrawan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner, and other
officers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) briefed the minister on
the latest status of various projects including 24x7 water supply, city
bus service, Pench-IV, development of hospitals, markets, and shopping
complexes, as well as Orange City Street project etc.
Briefing the
media after the meeting, Datke said that the total cost of Pench-IV
project was Rs 156.22 crore. Of a total 10 components, work on eight had
been completed at the cost of Rs 135.13 crore. The work of remaining
two components was in progress, he added. Package-2 of the project
comprises design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance
of 115 MLD output capacity Water Treatment Plant (WTP) near vilage
Godhani. As on February 1, 2015, the officers informed Gadkari in the
meeting, charging of power supply line from Mankapur sub-station to
Godhani WTP will be completed by February 8. Besides, charging of
sub-station at Godhani will be done by February 15. The deadline set for
trial run and commissioning is March 15.
As far as construction of
elevated storage reservoirs (ESRs) and ground storage reservoirs (GSRs)
is concerned, the works of Shantinagar, Nandanvan-I, Kharbi Road,
Sakkardara, Pratap Nagar, Indora-I, Indora-II, Binaki-I, Binaki-II,
Bastarwari-I, Jaitala, Bastarwari-II, Bhandewadi, and Omkar Nagar were
completed. However, the ESR/GSR at Jaitala and Bastarwari-II are ‘not
taken in use’ by Nagpur Environment Services Limited (NESL). The
structure of ESRs/GSRs was completed but hydraulic testing had remained
in cases of Nandanvan-II, Pardi-I, Pardi-II, Hanuman Nagar, and Seminary
Hill. In case of Trimurti Nagar, roof slab and piping work was to be
done.
The Pench-IV project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban
Renewal Mission (JnNURM) was supposed to be operational in 2012.
However, delay resulted in cost escalation. The initial project cost was
Rs 61.96 crore as in December 2006, but it increased to Rs 110 crore in
2010 when the work order was issued, and now the total cost is pegged
at Rs 156.22 crore. With the commissioning of the plant expected on
March 15 now, the city will get additional water of 115 MLD. The city’s
drinking water supply will increase from 640 MLD at present to 755 MLD.
Replying
to a question, Datke told reporters that NMC was to receive Rs 254
crore under JnNURM. “We expect that the State Government’s share of Rs
70 crore will be released soon. For the Centre’s share under JnNURM, we
will be meeting Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu under
the leadership of Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari,” Datke
said. MLC Prof Anil Sole also will accompany Gadkari. Soon, he said, 10
per cent of the Centre’s share may be released to NMC.
MLC Prof Anil
Sole, MLAs Krishna Khopde and Vikas Kumbhare; Munna Pokulwar, Deputy
Mayor; Dayashankar Tiwari, Ruling Party Leader in NMC; Narendra Borkar,
Standing Committee chief; Ramesh Singare, Girish Deshmukh, Sunil
Agrawal; Shrawan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner; corporators,
contractors, consultants were present in the meeting.
