Bawankule, Guardian Minister of Nagpur district, asked the investors in
Multimodal International Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) and Special
Economic Zone (SEZ) to start work on respective units within three
months. Else, he warned, the Government will cancel their land allotment
in MIHAN-SEZ area.
Adopting a tough stand and taking a major step
towards realisation of the dream of MIHAN-SEZ, Bawankule sent across
this message to representatives of various investors in a meeting held
in Mumbai on Wednesday. “There are investors including some big names
who have got land in MIHAN-SEZ but have not started work on their units
here. Such idle investment will not take the ambitious project any
further, and also not yield any positive results for development of the
region. Hence, I asked them to commence the work on their units within
three months and also submit a quarterly report of progress,” Bawankule
told ‘The Hitavada’ over telephone on Wednesday evening.
According
to the minister, he also warned the investors sitting pretty over the
allotted land to cancel the allotment of land if the units were not made
functional soon. “In such cases, we may also think about forfeiting the
charges paid by such idle investors. Also, in case of investors found
to be purposely delaying the plans, we may withdraw concessions and
exemptions till the time they complete their commitment,” he added.
Bawankule,
who is also Energy Minister of Maharashtra, said that the issues
pertaining to power supply in MIHAN-SEZ area had been sorted out by the
new BJP-led Government in the State. “We are committed to realisation of
the dream of MIHAN-SEZ project. Hence, we have also offered all
possible help to the investors. We asked investors to list out their
problems, and assured to extend co-operation in sorting those out,” he
said.
With the issues relating to land acquisition, rehabilitation
and relocation, land swapping, power supply being sorted out, and
internal infrastructure getting ready, MIHAN-SEZ will soon take off,
Bawankule observed.
The meeting held in Mumbai on Wednesday was attended by officials of Maharashtra Airport Development Company also.
