While taking stock of the preparations ahead of launch of Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG consumers (DBTL) in Nagpur city and district from October 1, Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Jayantkumar Banthia said that those not enrolling under the scheme would have to pay full price for LPG cylinders from January 1, 2014.
To avail of the direct transfer of subsidy for LPG cylinders, LPG consumers will have to enroll under DBTL scheme. For the purpose, they will have to link their gas consumer number with Aadhaar Card, and then link the same to their bank accounts by December 1, 2013. Else, from January 1, 2014, they will get non-subsidised LPG cylinder. That is, they will LPG cylinder as per the market rate, said Banthia while addressing the officials who attended the meeting held at Divisional Commissionerate here on Thursday.
Divisional Commissioner B Venugopal Reddy, Director of Aadhaar Project Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Director (IT) Virendra Singh, District Collectors of all districts in Nagpur Division, and officials of Food and Civil Supplies Department were present in the meeting. District Collectors N Naveen Sona (Wardha), Saurabh Rao (Nagpur), Dr Amit Saini (Gondia), Deepak Mhaisekar (Chandrapur) were present prominently.

Banthia took stock of the problems being faced at ground level by District Collectors as well as officials of banks and oil marketing companies, while implementing DBTL scheme effectively. B Venugopal Reddy sought additional manpower for effective implementation of the scheme. He sought special co-operation and initiatives from banks for increasing enrolment for Aadhaar Card in Gadchiroli district.
Banthia asked the officials concerned to take up a special drive to increase coverage of Aadhaar Card. In future, those not having Aadhaar Card would not get benefit of any of the Government schemes, he said.
In the meeting, N Naveen Sona informed Chief Secretary about status of DBTL scheme implementation in Wardha district. According to him, 96 per cent of the population had got enrolled for Aadhaar Card while 88 per cent had got Unique Identification Number (UID). Of a total 2,11,191 LPG consumers, 1,63,396 consumer numbers were linked to UID. A total of 1,26,440 consumers had linked their Aadhaar Card to bank accounts. As a result, subsidy of Rs 9.97 crore for LPG cylinders was deposited directly into the bank accounts of consumers.
Saurabh Rao said that 90 per cent of the population in Nagpur city and 60 per cent in rural areas had enrolled for Aadhaar Card in Nagpur district. Of a total 11,37,000 LPG consumers, more than half were in Nagpur city alone. He assured that Nagpur district was well-prepared to implement DBTL scheme effectively.
