11 co-op societies in Nagpur distt asked to return money to depositors

The district administration has asked the officials of Co-operation Department to remove hurdles in return of money to thousands of depositors of 11 beleaguered co-operative societies in Nagpur district. An amount of Rs 64,87,83,000 of 65,969 depositors is blocked in these co-operative societies.
These 11 co-operative societies include Chaitanyawadi Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Yuva Chaitanya Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Kalamna Market Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Bhavani Mata Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Lokjivan Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Chhatrapati Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Sharda Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, The Everest Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Shubham Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited, Savata Sahakari Pratyay Sanstha Maryadit, and Nagmitra Urban Credit Co-operative Society Limited.
The societies have a total of 65,969 depositors who have deposited an amount of Rs 64,87,83,000. Owing to financial management issues, these credit co-operative societies have landed in trouble. Already, legal and criminal proceedings have been initiated against these co-operative societies. So far, these societies have returned deposits of Rs 6.60 crore to 5,823 members and money of 60,236 members is yet to be deposited.
The proposals for return of Rs 13,28,59,000 to 54,936 depositors were processed to Commissioner Co-operation through the District-level Action Committee after discussions in July and August 2010. In July 2011, the District-level Action Committee had cleared the proposal for return of Rs 62,62,610 to 816 members of seven co-operative societies, said Satish Bhosale, District Deputy Registrar, Co-operation Department. Bhosale was speaking in a meeting of District-level Action Committee held at the District Collectorate here. Panjabrao Wankhede, Additional Collector, chaired the meeting of the committee that has been formed for better co-ordination in Revenue Department, Co-operation Department, Home Department.
Commissioner of Police, Superintendent of Police, District Special Auditor of Co-operative Societies, Chairman of District Credit Co-operative Societies’ Federation, representatives of depositoors, members of Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan of eminent social worker Anna Hazare are members of the District-level Action Committee. District Deputy Registrar is Member Secretary of the panel. In the review conducted by the committee, it was found that above-mentioned 11 credit co-operative societies were in trouble. When the issue came up in the meeting, Additional Collector asked the Co-operation Department officials to remove hurdles in return of money to depositors of these societies.
District Special Auditor D S Parse, Deputy Registrar Sanjay Kshirsagar, Jyoti Shankhpal, Senior Police Inspector Moula Sayyad, Assistant Registrar R N Wasu, T M Chauhan were present prominently in the meeting.
