NAGPUR, Oct 7: Criticism,
confidence in self, and charisma form a convincing blend. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi did exactly that while addressing his mammoth
public meeting at a jam-packed Kasturchand Park ground here on Tuesday.
He pointed out failures of Congress and NCP led Democratic Front (DF)
Government in Maharashtra and criticised 15 years of misrule; evoked
confidence that BJP will form next Government in Maharashtra with
absolute majority, and added his charisma to his statements.
“Change
is palpable in Maharashtra. Compared to Lok Sabha election campaign
rallies, now I am seeing ever-swelling crowd everywhere I am addressing
meetings as part of Legislative Assembly poll campaign. Political
pundits were proven wrong at the time of Lok Sabha elections, and they
will be proven wrong this tims also. BJP will get absolute majority and
form the next Government in Maharashtra in this historic Assembly
election,” said Modi, while evoking cheers and slogans in favour of BJP
from the sea of people that thronged Kasturchand Park ground. Even his
arrival on stage charged up the atmosphere in the ground and people
started chanting ‘Modi, Modi’. He got a standing ovation from the crowd
on his arrival. He acknowledged it by waving at the sea of people.
Prime
Minister reminded people that October 15 would decide the fate of
Maharashtra. “Remember this date of polling. On 15th day of this month,
sound death knell for 15-year-long misrule of corrupt Government. Vote
BJP to power with absolute majority on this date and start celebration
of a new era,” Modi said, and received loud cheers. He asked all 11
candidates of BJP from Nagpur city and Nagpur rural to stand beside him
and raise their hands, and then appealed to the people to raise their
both hands to commit themselves to ensure victory of the candidates. He
made it a point to mention names of all 11 candidates of BJP.
In his
impressive speech, Prime Minister came down heavily on the failures of
DF Government. Dubbing the 15-year-long rule of DF Government as
‘misrule’, Modi said that there was more destruction than construction
and massive loot of Maharashtra. “The span of 15 years is too long.
During this period, Congress and NCP led Government committed the sin of
ruining two generations,” he said. Not only Mumbai and Maharashtra but
also the country suffered because of misrule of Congress and NCP and the
economy was affected adversely. “Now, there is opportunity to end this
misrule as the outcome of Assembly elections this time will decide the
future of next generations. It is not about politics, it is about
securing good future,” he said amid loud applause from the people.
Throwing
light on the long list of scams including irrigation scam, Modi
appealed to the people to elect BJP to power with absolute majority to
convert ‘Scam Maharashtra’ into ‘Skilled Maharashtra’. Congress and NCP
had given ‘Scam Maharashtra’ and BJP wanted to deliver ‘Skilled
Maharashtra’, he added. He referred to some of the latest initiatives of
BJP-led Central Government and also to his recent highly successful
visit to the United States of America. He added, “India is regaining its
position in the world and global powers are taking cognisance of it. We
want Maharashtra to become a partner and an active participant in this
process. If BJP is elected to power in Maharashtra with absolute
majority, we will be able to put national development on fast track.”
Recalling
his visit to Nagpur for laying foundation stone of ambitious Metro Rail
project after becoming Prime Minister, Modi lamented that Congress
leader and the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan did not come for
the programme. “They follow political untouchability. We do not. We want
to build a strong ‘Team India’ of Chief Ministers of all states and
Prime Minister to make India world leader,” said the Prime Minister.
In
his speech, Modi demonstrated that he was familiar with developmental
projects in Vidarbha region and Nagpur. During the Congress-NCP
Government’s rule, a file of ambitious MIHAN project took 10 years to
move ‘500 metres’ from one department’s office to another. “Do you want
to elect such a Government again?” he asked people and the crowd
responded promptly ‘NO’. After establishing connect with the people,
Modi assured that if BJP was voted to power in Maharashtra, it will
complete MIHAN and also inaugurate various projects there. “Because, we
believe that MIHAN’s success will change Vidarbha region and also boost
Maharashtra’s growth story,” said the star campaigner of BJP. In his
speech, Modi also praised BJP’s Chandrapur MP Hansraj Ahir for being a
people’s representative in true sense and cornering the then
Congress-led Government over coal scam.
Modi also replied to
criticism of his Government. He ridiculed Congress for not giving
account of its performance in 60 years but asking about his achievements
in first 60 days. The biggest achievement of Central Government under
him, he said, was restoration of India’s pride and self-respect. “The
credit does not go to Narendra Modi but it goes to 125 crore people of
India who effected change in leadership. We want to restore pride of
Maharashtra and hence I appeal to the people to elect BJP candidates in
such a huge number that the party forms Government with absolute
majority,” he said.

‘Devendra Fadnavis is gift of Nagpur to Maharashtra’
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi showered praises on Devendra Fadnavis, State BJP
President and BJP candidate from South-West Nagpur constituency.
Calling Devendra Fadnavis a ‘gift of Nagpur’ to Maharashtra, Modi said
that the former was a very active MLA. “Fadnavis has been instrumental
in exposing the misdeeds, corruption, and scams of Congress and NCP
Government during 15 years of its rule in Maharashtra. He is a true
representative of people,” he added. Endorsing Modi’s opinion of
Fadnavis, people also gave a big applause. Fadnavis is being treated as
top contender for the post of Chief Minister if BJP is voted to power.
School hygiene campaign
from Children’s Day
After
invoking Mahatma Gandhi for popularising ‘Clean India’ campaign, Prime
Minister Narendra Modi said that the Government would launch a ‘school
hygiene campaign’ from November 14 (birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal
Nehru) to November 19 (birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi). “We do not
believe in political untouchability. In fact, we believe in good
causes,” he remarked. This year, he said, the nation will be celebrating
125th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru.
Since Pt Nehru was popular among kids as ‘Chacha Nehru’, starting a
personal hygiene campaign amongst students in schools will be a real
tribute to him, said Modi.
