Chinese trade delegation also evinces keen interest in Nagpur

Nagpur appears to be gaining deserving prominence on investment horizon, with the keen interest taken by BJP-led Maharashtra Government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Close on the heels of French delegation’s visit to the city, a Chinese trade delegation led by Zheng Xiyuan, Consul General of China in Mumbai, also arrived on two-day visit to the city on Friday.
The 14-member delegation proceeded to a Radisson Blu hotel, where it had an ‘informal’ discussion with Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) officials. Tanaji Satre, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of MADC; Sumit Mullick, Chief Protocol Officer; S J Moghe, Additional Secretary were present prominently. The delegation will pay a formal visit to Multimodal International Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) on Saturday morning.

The Chinese delegation visited Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday. “We had a very positive discussion with the Chinese delegation. The visiting dignitaries said that they were aware of Nagpur’s emergence as an investment destination. They also said that China was exploring possibilities of investing in Nagpur,” said Praveen Datke, Mayor, while informing the reporters about Chinese delegation’s visit. Datke said that the delegation comprised top executives of various Chinese enterprises in the fields of power plants, banking software, infrastructure, port infrastructure etc.
During the meeting between NMC officials and Chinese delegation, Sumit Mullick informed the Mayor that the delegation would visit MIHAN project and Butibori industrial area. Further, the visitors were interested in making investment in power sector. He also informed the delegation about 80 engineering colleges generating skilled manpower, opportunities in mining sector, tiger tourism potential of the region.
Shravan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner, made a power point presentation before the Chinese delegation. He highlighted the historic and geographical importance of Nagpur, and also NMC’s vision of making the city a ‘better, clean, green, and liveable’ one. Nag river cleaning campaign, proposal for LED street-lights, Orange City Street Scheme, e-governance initiatives, infrastructure projects, etc also were highlighted by Hardikar. In the next few years, Nagpur will get more prominence with fast development and coming up of All India Institue of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Metro Rail, and Indian Institute of Management (IIM). “This is the ripe time to invest in Nagpur,” Hardikar said.
At the outset, Datke welcomed Zheng Xiyuan and other members of the delegation. Ramesh Singare, Chairman of NMC Standing Committee; senior corporator Sunil Agrawal, R Z Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioner; Pramod Bhusari, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Prakash Urade, Superintending Engineer; Mahesh Gupta, Executive Engineer; A G Dharmadhikari, Deputy Director, District Industries Centre, and others also were present during the meeting.
The Chinese delegation has three other officials from the Consulate -- Xie Guoxiang, Commercial Consulor; Li Fanghui, Consul (Consul General’s wife); and Chong Li, Vice-Consul. The other members of the delegation include top bosses of Chinese enterprises.
These include Luo Zan, Deputy Manager General, ICBC Mumbai branch; Lu Yanxia, General Manager, SPECO III Electric Power Construction Corporation; Sun Xinxiao, Managing Director, China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (India unit);
Wei Jianhua, Chief Financial Officer, Shandong Heavy Industry Private Ltd; Wang Xiaofei, General Manager, Julong Company Ltd; Wang Bo, Technical Manager, Julong Company Ltd; Ma Guo, Senior Manager, Bank of China’s Mumbai branch; Wang Junwei, Chief Executive Officer of Taiyuan Heavy Industry (India) Private Ltd; Wang Zhidong, Financial Executive, of the same company. The delegation is accompanied by She Yonggang, journalist with Chinese official news agency Xinhua.
