CM clears transfer of 292.5 acres of MIHAN land for Nagpur Metro Rail, IIM

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday, cleared long-awaited transfer of 292.5 acres of land in Multimodal International Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), for two important projects -- Nagpur Metro Rail and Indian Institute of Management (IIM). The land transfer will expedite these vital projects in Nagpur.
Fadnavis cleared the transfer of land during a meeting held at Mantralaya in Mumbai. Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and the officials of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), Energy Department, Industries Department, Urban Development Department, General Administration Department, Finance Department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and others attended the meeting.
According to officials, Chief Minister chaired the meeting that was organised to take stock of the progress of MIHAN project. Of 292.5 acres of land in MIHAN, 37 hectares (92.5 acres) was required for car-shed and other facilities of Nagpur Metro Rail project, and 80 hectares (200 acres) for IIM.
While clearing the land transfer, Chief Minister also asked the officials concerned to expedite works in MIHAN project. At the same time, various development works must be carried out in time to expedite rehabilitation of project-affected persons, he added. Considering the requirements in future, he asked the officials to make available land at concessional rates to educational institutions imparting higher education, and get constructed a school in MIHAN area to impart quality education. “Priority must be accorded to children of project-affected persons while starting admissions in this school,” he said. A community hall also should be constructed under MIHAN project, he added.
During discussion on the issue of power supply to industries in MIHAN area, Chief Minister made it clear that costly power would not be purchased at any cost. He asked the officials concerned to work out a solution on the issue of power tariff.
P S Meena, Additional Chief Secretary (General Administration); Sudhir Kumar Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance); Mukesh Khullar, Principal Secretary (Energy); Apurva Chandra, Principal Secretary (Industries); Sanjay Bhatiya, Managing Director of CIDCO; Nitin Karir, Principal Secretary (Urban Development); Bhushan Gagrani, Chief Executive Officer of MIDC; Tanaji Satre, Managing Director of MADC; Shravan Hardikar, Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur, and other senior officers attended the meeting.
It may be recalled here that since taking over Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis has been taking a keen interest in expediting development of MIHAN project. He has included this ambitious project for Vidarbha into his top priority list.
Meanwhile, Dr Dinesh Keskar, Senior Vice-President (Sales) for Asia-Pacific and India, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday in Mumbai and discussed the progress of MIHAN project. Dr Keskar urged Fadnavis to extend all co-operation from the Government and also start courses in aviation sector so that skilled manpower was available for Boeing project.
In response, Fadnavis told Dr Keskar that the Government was planning to start courses in aviation sector to make available skilled manpower to investors in MIHAN area. Apart from this, already, Nagpur was getting prominence with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Indian Institute of Management (IIM), and Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) coming up there.
