No, this is not a statement related to political heat, as one may perceive. But, this is a statement relating purely to maximum temperature on April 10, which is polling date this year, and May 16, the date of counting of votes and declaration of results of Lok Sabha polls.
Data sourced from Meteorological Department records shows that May 16 has been hotter than April 10, if one compares the data of maximum temperature on both these dates during previous Lok Sabha elections held in 2004 and 2009. The data shows that maximum temperature on April 10 actually dipped in all districts of Vidarbha except for Amravati, in 2009 as compared to 2004. If one compares the data for May 16, it becomes clear that maximum temperature witnessed a rise in 2009 over 2004 in the districts of Nagpur, Chandrapur, Akola, Yavatmal, and Buldhana.
Similar data for both the dates was not available for Washim district for the year 2004, and maximum temperature on May 16, 2004 was not available in case of Amravati district. Besides, the data for Gadchiroli district was not available for any of the years as there is station to measure temperature. According to sources, data for Gondia and Bhandara districts is treated as almost the same.
This year, the polling for Lok Sabha polls is scheduled on April 10 in all 11 districts of Vidarbha. These districts are divided into 10 Parliamentary constituencies of Nagpur, Ramtek, Wardha, Bhandara-Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli-Chimur, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal-Washim, and Akola. Politically, the atmosphere hots up especially in the week ahead of polling date. Later on, the counting date witnesses colours of celebrations.
Since Lok Sabha elections are held in summer, maximum temperature specially on the dates of polling and counting matter for many. Many times, especially on polling date, the percentage of polling is high during early morning or towards late evening, and it is low during afternoon, when maximum temperature is at its peak.
