With the prominent candidates filing their nomination papers for Lok Sabha elections from Nagpur and Ramtek, all eyes were on assets shown by them in their affidavits. The affidavits reveal that assets of Congress candidates Vilas Muttemwar (Nagpur) and Mukul Wasnik (Ramtek) registered a rise of 60.81 per cent and 433.41 per cent respectively since 2009 polls.
Among all candidates who have filed their nominations from Nagpur and Ramtek constituencies so far, the richest one is Dr Mohan Gaikwad. The worth of all movable and immovable assets of Gaikwad is Rs 4,01,16,794 and he has total liabilities of Rs 3,00,62,541. The second richest candidate from both the constituencies so far is Pratap Goswami of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The total worth of his assets is Rs 2,37,48,945.29 and his liabilities are to the tune of Rs 20,75,378.
Muttemwar is the third richest candidate with assets worth Rs 2,00,35,545.90 and liabilities at Rs 35,69,251. Next comes Mukul Wasnik whose affidavit shows worth of all assets at Rs 1,61,19,417 with no liability. Mohan Karemore, a contractor who has floated a new outfit Nagpur Aam Aadmi Party (NAAP) to contest against AAP candidate Anjali Damania from Nagpur constituency, has assets worth total Rs 25,08,449 with no liability.
Interestingly, of five major candidates -- three from Nagpur and two from Ramtek -- who have filed nominations so far, only Muttemwar and Karemore do not own a car. The worth of assets of Muttemwar, who is seven-term MP, has grown by 60.81 per cent compared to the data in affidavit filed by him in 2009 polls. The increase is 433.41 per cent in case of Wasnik. The rise in Wasnik’s asset-worth is on account of acquisition of a residential plot at Maidawas village in Gurgaon (Haryana). This plot admeasures 3,150 sq ft and its current market value is shown as Rs 1,41,75,000.
Of the five candidates namely Muttemwar, Gaikwad, Karemore from Nagpur constituency and Wasnik and Goswami from Ramtek constituency, only Wasnik and Goswami do not have property in the name of spouses. Wasnik is not married while Goswami is a divorcee. Vilas Muttemwar’s affidavit shows assets worth Rs 63,47,144.02 in the name of his wife Chhaya. Mohan Gaikwad’s wife Anjali is shown to own assets worth Rs 73,49,615 and her liabilities are to the tune of Rs 38,58,482. Mohan Karemore’s wife is richer than him. While Karemore himself owns assets worth Rs 25,08,449, his wife Alka owns assets worth Rs 36,20,000 and has liabilities to the tune of Rs 3 lakh.
Now, all eyes will be on the affidavits of Nitin Gadkari, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Nagpur; Krupal Tumane, Shiv Sena candidate from Ramtek; and Anjali Damania, AAP candidate from Nagpur. These three prominent candidates will be filing their nomination papers and affidavits before Returning Officers of respective constituencies on Saturday.
