Often, awareness holds the key as far as availing of different schemes of the Government is concerned. In case of Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme, which was later revised and rechristened as ‘Pahal’, Maharashtra is better placed in the country. And, within Maharashtra, Vidarbha region tops the chart.
While the State average for number of LPG consumers getting cash subsidy transfers is 84.08 per cent, that of Vidarbha is 87.71 per cent. Interestingly, of 36 districts (including Mumbai city and suburbs), only six districts have recorded more than 90 per cent cash subsidy transfer. And, all these six districts are from Vidarbha region.
Wardha district has topped the State with the highest 94.93 per cent of LPG consumers getting cash subsidy transferred to their accounts, reveals the official data. It is followed by Naxal-affected and tribal-dominated Gadchiroli district, Gondia, Amravati, Bhandara, and Chandrapur districts. Among 11 districts in Vidarbha, Nagpur is however placed at eighth position with 85.41 per cent of LPG consumers getting cash subsidy transferred to their accounts. As per the official data, Vidarbha has total 304 LPG distributors. They cater to 32,44,626 consumers. Of these, as many as 28,45,782 consumers are getting cash subsidy transferred to their bank accounts.
DBTL scheme was launched around two years ago. Initially, it was linked to bank account and Aadhaar Card. However, as many consumers were yet to get Aadhaar Cards, it was revised and rechristened as ‘Pahal’ from November 15, 2014. In the initial phase, it was launched in 54 districts across the country including Amravati and Wardha from Vidarbha region. From January 1, 2015, it was launched in all remaining districts in the country. Those who are still not enrolled with proper linkages under the scheme, have been given ‘parking period’ up to June 30, 2015, to get enrolled so that subsidy could be transferred to their bank accounts.
